I've actually watched some of those "ancient aliens" programs on Netflix with my son and they DID lead to some great discussions... he got really into those last summer.
Are aliens out there? Heck no Wes! According to the History Channel, the aliens are already here! Look no further than Ancient Aliens or the equally hilarious America Unearthed! I got to thinking about how these shows are presented as truth, when in fact they are not. I wondered if they can be used to foster critical thinking skills? Here is what I came up with: http://holtthink.tumblr.com/post/41677429670

I checked it out and it was good and seemed like a lot of work really did go into it. It was really a different style of video though which was interesting too.

I'm not sure how long people who dont play minecraft would last, or even some that do, and im not sure how much of a singer you would want to be but I think that at least a better beat would help it out.

Thanks for checking out my post and I wish you luck on your video making future!

You did a great job with your review. I agree completely - those are the best out there for Minecraft Music Videos by far.

I've created one that I think is pretty good, and would love to know what you think of it. It's called Everybody's Free to Kill Creepers, and is based on the Baz Lurmann song, Everybody's Free to Wear Sunscreen.

Thanks!

Sarah:

I accept your proposal. However, as we watch this together I want us to watch and see if the characters act consistently disrespectful to teachers and adults. This, as I recall, was my main concern and complaint against this program.

Maybe when we watch this we can pay special attention to how the main characters treat adults, and keep some notes on what we see/observe.

Does that sound like an acceptable plan?

I realize this is an old post. However, I just came face-to-face with this ridiculous law today. It's dumb. I can't take a baby in a baby carrier in any liquor store to go buy liquor. Is the baby buying liquor? No. Am I buying liquor for the baby? Umm, no. I, an adult of legal drinking age, am buying liquor. Or I would be, but since you can't take your child with you into the store, I am not. Ridiculous.

Andy: We're not teaching Rachel she "deserves the wrath of a deity who is personally responsible for murder of millions."

We're also not teaching her she's a terrible person. Quite the contrary: God has created her wonderfully in His own image.

We are teaching her that we're all tempted to act selfishly in ways that can hurt others, and in ways that go against God's will for our lives. We're all tempted to make bad choices. Even wonderful little 8 year old girls, and 40 something year old dads. We all sin and are tempted to sin.

I think Rachel's prayer to "Help us to love others and make better choices" is a heartfelt expression of how she understands these ideas.

This doesn't have anything to do with people killing in God's name in the past or today.

Seeing this makes me want to cry. Makes me want to hug this little girl and tell her that she's perfect the way she is. How bizarre must be the world of a person who can look at a little girl who tries so hard and tell her that she's a terrible sinner and deserves the wrath of a deity who is personally responsible for murder of millions, who commanded others to murder millions, and in whose name countless other millions were murdered; and that this little girl will not be whole until she obtains the supposed forgiveness of such deity.

What a beautifully descriptive poem.
Your use of simile and metaphor is not at all clumsy, it is very appropriate and creates great atmosphere to your poem.
I love that you create a beastly character of the fire, and yet at the end recognise that it has a role in creating life. Well done and thanks for sharing it!

This is informative and hilarious! Your son shows that his videos outperformed those of his sister and at some point seems to say that when you posted a video, it hurt business but I was not too clear on that one for sure. He makes a persuasive argument with his time-line of events, charts, and analysis that he made the best videos and he earned the most money! Your son is a great businessman. Both of your kids must make great videos if they both had videos to go viral or at least become very popular. I would be interested in seeing the videos. Can you post links. Thanks for sharing this very fun post!

Hello Rachel,
I love your ideas about Toy Story. I'm going to share them with my nephew Jackson who is a big Toy Story fan. He is the one who really got me excited about Toy Story. He is a first grader and will appreciate your point of view.

Keep writing more blog posts. You write very well. Perhaps you might like to comment on my classroom blog once school starts. I know my students would love to hear from you. It will help them with their writing.

Bye for now.

Alex, I know you don't remember me since the only time we met in person was 10 years ago.

Your dad's link on FaceBook led me to your project. I had been interested since reading about it. I am of the same generation as your grandparents, and I believe that computers have made the greatest impact on our generation, probably, since we have had to deal with such a major change in our lives, personally and work-wise.

It is important for students to understand that we had such a different life before computers, and I think your project helped explain this very well!

Sarah and Rachel, that was awesome! Thanks for sharing it with us. I really enjoyed your cooking lesson (and I’m not just saying that in a condescending “it was cute cos you’re just a kid” way, I really mean it, you did a better job of it than many adults could do!)… I thoroughly enjoyed your explanation and demonstration of how to cook these sausage balls. I thought it was clear, funny, entertaining, and you both really did a great job of it! Loved the expression in your voice, your sense of timing and the overall clarity of what you’ve done. Well done! I’m looking forward to the next episode!

PS: Down here in Australia, we call them meat balls, not sausage balls, and I don’t think we use as much cheese in them. I might have to try your recipe!

This is so cool, Alex! I think you did a great job! I love the steam rising from the brown ewer. Now if I could just remember who Tom Bombadil is for sure -- I do remember his name, but not his character!

I think the coconut ones are Samoas. Those are my favorite! :-)

On a technical note, I had to help Sarah embed these into her post using an "iframe" tag, which embedded <a href="http://www.speedofcreativity.org/docs/2009/survey.html" rel="nofollow">a simple webpage</a> with the embed codes. I wish there was a simple way to use javascript in Wordpress posts.
